What if the Game of Thrones characters played Poker?

Poker is a game which needs to be played with complete shrewdness, tact, and a fair knowledge of how the human psyche works. To be adept at it one needs to be well-versed in the dubious arts of lying, deceiving, and the like. Fortunately, the colourful characters of Game of Thrones are more than capable of treachery, backstabbing, and lying ruthlessly in order to achieve their gains, and hence in this article, we would like to see what insanity would ensue, were our favourite characters to indulge in a not-so-friendly round of poker.

  1. Tyrion Lannister

unnamed

Arguably, GoT’s most loveable character, Tyrion would surely be an adroit poker player. Cunning, scheming, and an excellent manipulator, he would outwit and insult his opponents on his way to a strong finish. It doesn’t seem too hard to imagine the short-statured Lannister with a goblet of wine beside him, trying to throw the other players off their game with his drunken demeanour, does it?

2.      Daenerys Targaryen

unnamed (1)

Daenerys undoubtedly is a strong judge of character, as has been noted multiple times throughout the series. She would call out bluffs with a royal elegance, and would herself bluff too with a coolness embodied by experts. Besides, Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion surrounding her would be enough to scare the daylights out of her opponents and affect their mindset!

3. Jon Snow

unnamed (2)

Jon Snow, although possessing a respectable amount of intellect, would be busy annoying everyone by constantly asking them about the rules of the game. Ah, you indeed know nothing, Jon Snow!

4.    Cersei Lannister

unnamed (3)

Cersei, furious with Jon Snow’s incompetence at poker would threaten to leave the game, all the while knowing that nothing of the sort would happen and that she must win no matter what. Possibly the shrewdest member at the table, Cersei would cling furiously to her cards, challenging anyone and everyone to call out her bluffs and to raise the stakes.

5.     Margaery Tyrell

unnamed (4)

Behind a sickly sweet smile lies a ruthless poker player in Margaery Tyrell. Acting vulnerable and benign, she would draw her opponents in with her insidious mannerisms and then finish them off before they could say ‘Growing Strong’.

6.    Joffrey Baratheon

unnamed (5)

Vehemently despised by everyone at the table excluding his mother Cersei, Joffrey would behave in a disgraceful and cocky manner. He would threaten to behead everyone were he lose, only to sadly realize in the end that his words counted for naught and that inexperience at poker can be very fatal indeed.

7.    Arya Stark

unnamed (6)

She might be young, but let that not fool you. Arya’s lack of years is more than made up for by her perseverance, wit and boldness. She would definitely be the dark horse at this poker table.

8. Ramsay Bolton

unnamed (7)

The most unpredictable of the lot, mainly due to his psychopathic tendencies, Ramsay Bolton would be a force to be reckoned with. Playing the game fairly would be highly incongruous for him, and he would make use of underhanded ploys to achieve victory. His poker expression would be to grin maniacally at everyone around him, betraying none of his twisted thoughts.

9.  Jaime Lannister
unnamed

Jaime Lannister, not the most skilful of players, would quickly find the game getting out of hand, and hence would play each hand as though it were his last!

10. Ned Stark

unnamed (1)

He plays the game with honour but unfortunately, Ned’s at the wrong table. Not used to the treachery being committed around him, he would find that his boundaries are increasingly being tested and that poker isn’t really for him. His high regard for morality and loyalty would ultimately cause him to lose the game.

11. Hodor

unnamed (3)

Uhh HODOR??  ‘Nuff said!

Well, one can conclude that this round of poker would be unbelievably fun and interesting, even more so, if these delightfully varied characters had their own barbecue set or hookah pot to enjoy along with the game !
